I love bohemian and free-spirited festival style for summer! Fringe, florals, crop tops, silk pants, maxi dresses and rompers – so many cute looks with endless accessory options. You can go all out with a feather headdress or tone it down with a messy braid and a fedora. When FASHION Magazine asked the Style Panel experts about festival style, I was ready to rock the challenge!
Festival style is a huge trend and people really turn it out for actual festivals, but how do you make it appropriate for every day and less like a costume?
At its core, festival style is all about being comfortable in the heat – a look that’s ready to take on the day from a picnic lunch to dancing under the stars. Even if you’re not heading to Coachella or Osheaga anytime soon, you can still rock festival style for summer in the city!
I tap into festival style pretty much every weekend in the summertime! Whether I’m at a backyard BBQ, sipping sangria on a patio or strolling along the boardwalk at the beach, my relaxed boho-chic style suits the occasion.
I usually opt for a sweet little sun dress or a relaxed maxi dress, but this season I’m stepping out of my comfort zone with more rompers in my wardrobe.
Romper: Modcloth, Vest: Smart Set, Sandals: Flurries, Bag: Aldo, Necklaces: Biko & Fredrick Prince, Bracelets: IMONIQ, Biko & Ellie Mae, Sunglasses: Joe Fresh, Watch: Michael Kors
I love the sweetheart neckline, button up bodice and flared shorts on this floral romper – simple and sweet in a soft colour palette that’s easy to accessorize. There’s not much too this romper so I added a long crochet vest for texture and a chic layered look.
In addition to the crochet vest, I accessorized with layered necklaces, stacked bracelets, comfy gladiator sandals and aviators. Festival style is all about layering for day-to-night style and I love the way that translates to jewellery. It’s okay to overdo it a little – if you think you have too many bracelets on, add one more! Mixed metals and materials, delicate or edgy – anything goes!
I finished off my festival style with a messy side braid and sheer coral lips. If I’m going to be outdoors all day and into the night, I have to embrace the humidity. That means natural curls and a little frizz which I actually love with boho-chic looks like this. If my hair is getting too hot to handle, I usually throw it in to a low side braid instead of a bun because the low style accommodates my fedora if I need shade.
Ready for fun in the sun! What do you think of my festival style?
I live in the Beaches area of Toronto and there’s a festival happening at the park down the street pretty much every weekend from June to September! Blues Fest, Jazz Fest, RIB FEST and more – so stay tuned for more boho-chic summer weekend looks.
